What is the Committee

The Project Steering Committee is a key part of the ongoing governance of the CKAN project, consisting of the CKAN software (http://ckan.org/) and CKAN Network of sites.

PSC's Role

The current key purposes of the PSC are:

  1. Provide oversight and strategic guidance for the project
  2. Represent users of CKAN (both software and sites) in relation to the development of the software and the site

What Being a Member Involves

The formal commitment for the PSC is 4 quarterly meetings a year (approximately 1hr each online via irc and skype). However, PSC members will often be involved more widely e.g. joining in with monthly community meetings, code-sprints etc.

Background

The CKAN project has grown substantially recently and it was thought sensible to establish a formal 'Project Steering Committee' (PSC). This Committee incorporates and extends the existing leadership for the project in the form of James Gardner, the current project lead on the code side, and Rufus Pollock's position as 'Benevolent Dictator for Life'.
